Team J – Post Mortem

(This was done Tuesday, November 15th but is being submitted now.  Sorry!)

We were really happy with our Project 4.  We got really involved and engrossed in our work and trying to figure out exactly what we wanted.  On that same token, we may have done a bit too much research and spent less time on developing specific concepts.  Our overall concept system was one that we were very happy about, but we knew that it was WAY to huge to flesh everything out for Project 5.

A few of the things that did not go so well are below:

1) We all agreed that we needed to attempt to do more work outside of the meeting.  We also need to work on splitting up our work so that we all aren’t spending hours working on the exact same thing.  A lot of the time, the bulk of our work was completed during our meetings.  That being said, most of our meetings were 2 hours or less, which we all felt was a good amount of time to be meeting.

2) We thought that we all needed to be a bit more proactive and reactive to others ideas.  We felt that as a team we all could have been a bit more proactive in getting things done and taking some initiative.  For the most part, we liked how strong we were in bringing ideas to the table and making sure to get our opinions out there.  During project five, we feel that this was definitely something that we did really well.  We definitely were less afraid to split up the work, and we even had meetings via Google+ hangout, which helped a lot with timeliness.

3)  Being on time was somewhat of an issue.  While we all generally got there around the time we said the meeting was going to start, we didn’t always make it right on time.  While it didn’t really bother anyone too much, we definitely felt that we needed to be more respectful of start times or at least make others aware if we were going to be running a little bit late.

4) We waited until perhaps too late to start writing up our final “paper” and doing our PowerPoint presentation.  We felt really stressed the last day or so before the project was due, and that definitely showed through in the studio that day.  We were definitely happy with how our presentation turned out and was executed, but we didn’t feel that our write-up portion that we submitted was anywhere near what we would have liked to see.

Again, sorry for the lateness of posting this.  It’s been a whirlwind last couple of weeks!  Only a few more to go!  We look forward to seeing the progress and changes that people made during project 5!

-Team J (Bartlow, Das, Hardy, Lovall)

My name is Zach Lovall. I am currently 22 years old. I was born and raised right here in Indiana in a small town called Kouts (which is in the northwest part of the state). Prior to IU, I attended Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. While at Butler, I was a Resident Assistant for 2 years in a sophomore dormitory and was actively involved in Tau Beta Sigma honorary band sorority (co-ed). I played the tenor saxophone and still love to do so when I have the time.
