presenting with emotion II

Another article I researched is “Presentation Balance: Content vs. Emotion”[1]. The author mentioned that including emotion in presentation means connecting with audience on a human level, appealing to their hearts as well as their heads.

When we present our ideas, the speaking words only count a small fraction of what we deliver to our audience. And they could respond in different ways based on the content they heard. However, body language, facial expressions, eye contact or speaking tones may deliver a stronger message than plain text, since these convey our passion and attitude.

The article highlights some suggestions in bringing emotion to presentation, which I think is useful for us:

Stories and anecdotes connect with the audience on a more “gut” level than impersonal facts and figures. Use stories to humanize your rational content but make sure they are linked to your message.

Tell your audience what your information means to them and why it’s relevant. Show your own passion and commitment for your content by speaking enthusiastically. Enthusiasm is contagious.

Stand up straight and look your audience in the eye, demonstrating that you are eager to share your viewpoint with them.
